Before we get to Pacific Rim 2, let's begin with The Belko Experiment. It's an upcoming film written and produced by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and directed by Greg McLean (Wolf Creek). It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this past weekend and was well-received by those in attendance, generating some serious buzz. The film itself, which mixes dark humor and gory violence, is about co-workers trapped in a building and forced into a "kill-or-be-killed" scenario. The cast is comprised of strong characters actors, such as John Gallagher, Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane), Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), Adria Arjona (True Detective), John C. McGinley (Scrubs), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Melonie Diaz (Fruitvale Station).

Okay. So, why did I mention all of that? Well, Steven S. DeKnight, the director of Pacific Rim 2, responded to a tweet Gunn posted of a positive review for The Belko Experiment. DeKnight tweeted an eagerness to see Gunn's film and, more importantly, revealed that a member of its cast will also appear in Pacific Rim 2.

Gunn then responded to DeKnight's tweet, teasing him that he should abandon Pacific Rim 2 if that actor turns out to be Rooker, a close friend and frequent collaborator of Gunn's.

Check out their entertaining exchange in the tweets below.

So, which one of the aforementioned actors would like to see in Pacific Rim 2?

Pacific Rim 2 will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Marvel's Daredevil) and is being written by Emily Carmichael and Kira Snyder.

As for the cast, Star Wars: The Force Awakens' John Boyega is the only actor that has been officially cast, so far, in the sequel, and he is playing the son of the late Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba). In June, it was reported that Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad) was being considered for a lead role, but since then, we haven't heard anything new on that front. And in July, Charlie Hunnam (Green Street Hooligans), the star of the first film, revealed that he won't be able to reprise the heroic role of Raleigh Becket because of a scheduling conflict.

Legendary and Universal's Pacific Rim 2 will hit theaters on February 23, 2018.
