Jessica Jones Season 2 Details Revealed

When we first met street-level superhero Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) in her very own Netflix series, she was a whiskey-drinking, short-fused, mess of a woman.

The dark, gritty, and sometimes violent Marvel superhero series gained a lot of attention. Critics called it "refreshingly honest" as it cleverly tackled adult themes head-on such as sexuality, PTSD, and abuse in a dignified way. Not to mention, the series spawned one of the most sadistic, twisted villains we have ever met with Kilgrave (David Tennant).

It's no surprise that Jessica Jones season 2 was quickly greenlit, however the release date depends on the upcoming team-up miniseries The Defenders, which will bring together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

Now, plot details for Jessica Jones season 2 have been revealed, giving us an idea of what to expect when our favorite badass Hell's Kitchen private eye returns.

In a recent interview with Empire, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg explained that even though Kilgrave is gone, Jessica will still be dealing with that trauma:

"She was kind of messed up even before Kilgrave came along and so in Season Two we can explore what's possible for her moving forward."

"I learned from working on Dexter that you can advance the character, but you never want to cure the character...that trauma is a huge part of who she is now."

Rosenberg also said that with Luke Cage and Kilgrave missing from Jessica Jones season 2, means that Jessica's friendship with with adopted sister Trish (Rachael Taylor) will be the core of the series:

"I feel like for me that's what is unique about the relationship, that they are such intimate friends, and I think they don't have to become lovers—that being said, one never knows."

Jessica Jones was the first Marvel/Netflix series to put a realistic woman superhero front and center, now with Trish being more involved in the second season maybe we'll see her transform into her alter-ego Hellcat. We do know that after an explosive first season, we can expect Rosenberg to give us another deep, character-driven storyline.

Jessica Jones season 2 will probably debut sometime in late 2017, but in the meantime we have Luke Cage releasing on September 30 to keep us busy.
