Thursday at New York Comic-Con, before the world premiere screening of the animated film Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment announced (via THR) that Star Trek‘s original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, will voice the villainous Two-Face (a.k.a. Harvey Dent) in the sequel.

Two-Face is a very interesting addition to the sequel as the character never appeared in the original Batman television series (1966โ€“1968); however, science-fiction writer Harlan Ellison turned in an outline for a story that would have introduced Two-Face, but it never made it to air. DC Comics retified that glaring omission by having writer Len Wein and artist Josรฉ Luis Garcia-Lopez adapt Ellison’s story, “The Two-Way Crimes of Two-Face,” for the first issue of the Batman ’66: The Lost Episode (Nov. 2014) comic book series.

As for Two-Face, he began as Gotham’s idealistic district attorney, but when half of his face was physically disfigured by the mob, he transformed into Two-Face, one of Batman’s most psychotic and iconic villains.

It’s back to the 1960s as Batman and Robin spring into action when Gotham City is threatened by a quartet of Batman’s most fiendish foes โ€“ Penguin, The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman. The four Super-Villains have combined their wicked talents to hatch a plot so nefarious that the Dynamic Duo will need to go to outer space (and back) to foil their arch enemies and restore order in Gotham City. It’s a truly fantastic adventure that will pit good against evil, good against good, evil against evil โ€ฆ and feature two words that exponentially raise the stakes for both sides: Replicator Ray. Holy Multiplication Tables!

The film features the vocal performances of Adam West (Batman), Burt Ward (Robin) and Julie Newmar (Catwoman).

Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be available November 1, 2016 on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD. It will be available to own on Digital HD starting October 11, 2016.
