The movie that will bring Stephen King's magnum opus to life, The Dark Tower, may have recently been pushed back to a Summer release, but that doesn't mean Sony Pictures is going to just ignore it until then. A new teaser poster released on twitter Monday that shows Idris Elba's Gunslinger alongside Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers, his young ward. The classic greeting quote from the series adorns the poster: "May Your Days Be Long Upon The Earth." Likewise, Sony's tweet included the appropriate response: "And may you have twice the number."
It's interesting for the poster to be talking about twice the number of days, since thanks to the delay fans have to wait an extra six months for the film's release.
Originally, the plan was for a trailer to The Dark Tower to hit sometime this week, ahead of Christmas. An internal trailer with unfinished special and visual effects leaked two months ago, and got a positive response from fans despite the incomplete shots. No official trailer announcement or classification has hit or been acknowledged since the delay, however.
"The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum. It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it."
The film stars Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Thor: The Dark World) stars as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar) as the Man in Black. The cast also includes Kathryn Winnick (Vikings), Fran Kranz (Cabin in the Woods), Abbey Lee Kershaw (Mad Max: Fury Road), Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Tom Taylor (Legends), and Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Preacher).
The Dark Tower is now due in theaters July 28, 2017. Check out the full poster, and other released images from the film, below.
