Earlier today, fans were to shocked to learn that an illicit footage from The Dark Tower had hit the Internet. Sony did their best to take the shoddy trailer down, but many were able to view the clip before it was taken down. The unfinished footage impressed fans, leaving many to wonder when an official trailer for The Dark Tower would drop. And, now, an executive at Sony Pictures has revealed when the first trailer will be released.

During an interview with Collider, Tom Rothman revealed the first teaser trailer for The Dark Tower would come no later than Christmas. Of course, the footage will be a great gift for fans who've been waiting patiently to see Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in character as Roland Deschain and Walter Padick.

Rothman also talked about how excited he was for fans to see The Dark Tower and said the film does something many adaptations fail to. "It manages that rare feat of being very satisfying for fans because it's deeply loyal to the underlying material and Stephen King's mythology, but also, I think, introduces a whole bunch of new fans," he explained.

The executive also said they couldn't have done a better job casting the film as both Elba and McConaughey shined in their roles. Rotham admitted he had seen footage of the two stars playing opposite of one another and gushed about their chemistry. After all, the characters do facedown with one another in a high-stakes, multi-dimensional world, so the actors would need to level up their on-screen antagonism to do their roles justice.

Before December rolls around, footage from The Dark Tower will be previewed at EW Pop Fest in October. The exclusive footage will likely be kept offline, but the event promises its guests they'll watch clips with "special guests" from the film's cast.

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World's last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World's post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum. It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

The cast also includes Kathryn Winnick (Vikings), Fran Kranz (Cabin in the Woods), Abbey Lee Kershaw (Mad Max: Fury Road), Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Tom Taylor (Legends), and Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Preacher).

The Dark Tower film is scheduled for release on January 13, 2017.
