This week, fans of the Castlevania games were elated to learn the iconic franchise would be getting a Netflix series. Thanks to Adi Shankar, the animated series will make its way to the streaming site in 2017, and the show has been described as a wholly gritty affair. Fans are already excited to see the project debut, but it seems Shankar already has his sites elsewhere. Recently, the showrunner confessed he was developing as Power Rangers reboot, and it sounds fairly NSFW.

Speaking to Polygon, Shankar confirmed he was working on a retelling of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series.

"It's a complete retelling of the first three seasons," Shankar explained. "And it's going to be really f**king dark. Darker than any other Power Rangers series."

So far, Shankar has only begun work on the reboot's first season and would like to ideally launch the series within 18 months. The creator has yet to sell the project to any network, but Shankar told the site there were parties interested in licensing the show. However, when it comes down to it, the Castlevania showrunner wants Netflix to be the one he works with on the reboot.

"Netflix is doing what every other network should be doing," Shankar said. "I've worked with almost every network and Netflix just gets it. The world we live in now has disrupted the idea of what entertainment is and Netflix gets it."

If you are wondering how different the reboot could be, Shankar said the project would be like Power Rangers meeting Dragon Ball Z. As a writer, he wants to do away with the show's various monsters and make a more linear narrative. "If you look at what shows are like today, they're long movies. It's a format paradigm and I want to explore creating these types of new shows with Power Rangers," he explained.

"We're going to focus on the beats of what made each show great and turn that into one, entirely new Power Rangers series."

Right now, fans can only wait to see what happens with this new project. Later in 2017, the Power Rangers will be getting a reboot, but it won't be quiet as dark. A live-action film starring the superhero squad will be released by Lionsgate in March. If you're ready to see the film, make sure you rank how hyped you are with our anticipation rankings below!

"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

Power Rangers is set to land in theaters on March 24, 2017.
