Power Rangers Will Feature Cameos From Two Original Cast Members

In just a few weeks, fans of Power Rangers will be on the go-go to theaters. Thanks to Lionsgate, the action-packed series will get its first live-action Hollywood film, and fans of the cult classic are interested to see the studio's take on the team. The film, which is based off the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show, will introduce new actors to the franchise as they suit up as their colorful characters. And, now, fans know two cast members from the original show will have a part in the upcoming Power Rangers film.

Over at Lionsgate, the studio has released its production notes about the project on its publicity site. It is there that fans can see the credits for Power Rangers, and two very familiar names can be seen. Playing Cameo Role #1 will be none other than Jason David Frank while Cameo Role #2 goes to Amy Jo Johnson.

Of course, fans have wondered for some time now whether Frank would appear in Power Rangers. Last year, reports about the actor's involvement surfaced after an Instagram post from Blake Foster connected Frank to the film. The original Blue Ranger hinted that "JDF" was part of the Power Rangers movie, but Frank went on to deny any involvement with the film.

Fans were also told no original cast members would be featured in Power Rangers from yet another alumni. Walter Jones, who played the original Black Ranger, told fans none of the alumni actors were invited to be part of the movie.

However, the previous reports no longer seem to be the case. With Frank and Johnson tapped for cameos, it seems the pair will bring a bit of much-wanted nostalgia to Power Rangers fans. So, hopefully, the duo will get a nice close-up in the upcoming film.

Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it's too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

Saban's Power Rangers stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott/the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston/the Blue Ranger, Becky G as Trini Kwan/the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor/the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart/the Pink Ranger, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bill Hader as Alpha 5, and Bryan Cranston as Zordon.

The film is being directed by Project Almanac-helmer Dean Israelite and was written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz.

Power Rangers is scheduled for release on March 24, 2017.
