There's more than Cobra rising in the world of action hero G.I. Joe! IDW Publishing has announced a new miniseries, set for release in 2010. Max Brooks, former Saturday Night Live writer and author of zombie work World War Z, will be in charge of scripting the five-issue series. IDW was very enthusiastic about the project, with IDW G.I. Joe editor Andy Schmidt saying, "Both Chris Ryall [IDW editor-in-chief] and I read 'World War Z' and we knew we had to try to get Max to write something for us. What we didn't know is that Max is a huge 'G.I. Joe' fan and had expressed interest in writing 'G.I. Joe' to Christos Gage [COBRA writer]." Brooks is "thrilled" with the prospect of working on what he describes as "an icon of my youth." Adding another volume to the rich print history of G.I. Joe, IDW is already responsible for the official movie adaptation of the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
