Comic book legend Stan Lee has set his sights on another territory, that of the most populous country in the world. Lee’s POW! Entertainment is forming a joint venture with a Hong Kong investment company through Magic Storm Entertainment, a new company from POW!. In an official press release on POW’s site, Lee says, “I have been eagerly awaiting this great opportunity — a chance to combine the best of American superhero epics with the best of Chinese and Asian classical filmmaking for a motion picture that would be excitedly received worldwide.”
It is unclear at this time if the films will be animated or live action, but recent success of Marvel film properties such as Iron Man and Spider-Man in China have emboldened Lee’s hopes of further success and expansion into China, which currently has 1.3 billion people. That’s quite a market for a commodity that could catch fire in popularity quickly. Be sure to know that more details are forthcoming!
