It’s been awhile since there have been any updates about the possibility of Marvel Studios doing a Luke Cage movie. A couple years backs the LA Times reported that a notable Hollywood star was having preliminary talks with Marvel Studios about a film featuring the character, but nothing ever materialized.
Since that time a number of high profile actors have voiced their desire to play the Luke Cage character. Stars interested in the role include Tyrese Gibson, Isaiah Mustafa, and Idris Elba. In fact, Idris Elba just re-affirmed his interest in the role in an interview with MTV News.
When asked about superhero characters he would like to play, Elba said, “I think, you know, someone like Luke Cage, he’s a normal man that has an extraordinary ability. I think that works for me. I think that could get pretty dark and pretty sexy.”
Idris Elba certainly has plenty of experience in superhero movies. In the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Elba plays Moreau, who is described as a motorcycle-riding monk. Elba also played Heimdall in the Thor movie, so he’s got an established relationship with Marvel Studios. In addition to expressing his desire to play Luke Cage, Elba also confirmed that he was going to be working with Marvel Studios again with the Thor 2 movie. So what do you think?
