While it's no Iron Man 3, with set photos hitting the Internet on a daily basis, there's been enough information made available so far to give some fans a sense that they know what's going on in the sequel.
Loki May Be Redeemed
In interviews following on the heels of The Avengers, including one with ComicBook.com, actor Tom Hiddleston (who plays Loki in the Marvel Studios films) suggested that not only would Loki NOT be the central villain of the second film, but he might actually be looking at some kind of redemption arc and could, potentially, end up working with the good guys.
It's also been said that Thanos won't be the central villain, either, so it's not as though the whole movie revolves around Loki being pursued for his failure in The Avengers.
The film will be "cosmic"
Involving Odin and Asgard, as well as a number of the other realms according to newer reports, one of the first things we heard about Thor: The Dark World dis that it will be "cosmic," a descriptor that makes a lot of sense given the appearance of Thanos at the end of The Avengers and the coming Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation.
Still, don't expect Thor to be heading out to space to find Beta Ray Bill right away; rather, by "cosmic" it's likely that the filmmakers simply meant that the film wouldn't be earthbound, and would play with some of the realms in a way that the first one (which was mostly limited to earth with a little Asgard) did not.
There will be elves
A stuntman, talking about work on the film at Comic-Con, told an interviewer that he and a group of others were told that they would be elves in a scene.
“The other day…I was working on Thor 2," James Grogan told I Review Too. "I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”
A lot of underground shooting
There have been reports this week that there's quite a bit taking place underground in Thor: The Dark World. This may tie into the "elves" clue in that The Dark Elves of Svartalfheim can often be found living underground.
According to Bleeding Cool, "Some long tunnels in London will be used for the filming of scenes that, as yet, we haven’t been able to confirm as taking place on Earth, on Asgard or elsewhere."
They're looking for hot, military or tattooed extras
Have they tried Suicide Girls? I hear they're into that kind of thing. In any event, reports popped up yesterday that the film was looking for a number of extras, with military experience, hot bodies or tattoos.
Why tattoos? Hard to know, although it seems likely they'll be humans of some kind. After all, using tattooed extras to play some kind of supernatural character with tattooed skin seems like it's just too much trouble in post-production, trying to make sure you removeod all of the tattoos that don't fit with the backstory. You could just as easily and cheaply paint them onto non-tattooed people, or even do it with CG.
