“We’re on day 1 of shooting,” tweeted the star. “Wolverine is back…feel so pumped about this one……never felt so ready!!!! will keep y’all posted!!!”
The film is a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the critically-maligned 2009 film that introduced Deadpool and Gambit to the X-Men movie universe as well as incofporating elements of Joe Quesada’s Wolverine: Origin. That movie made $180 million domestically, in spite of a pre-release leak of a high-quality workprint copy that 20th Century Fox was concerned would seriously hurt the fim’s earning potential.
The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold from a script that’s reportedly based heavily on the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller Wolverine comics of the 1980s. It’s set largely in Japan, although it’s unclear at this point whether any of the film will actually be shot there. Jackman has stated in interviews that most or all of the film will be shot in his native Australia, which is where filming reportedly began hours ago.
