Star-Lord Guardians of the Galaxy

This is speculation, based on last night's blockbuster Marvel rumors from Latino Review, and not anything we're hearing from sources--just to be clear. With the news coming last night that Planet Hulk might take place on the big screen following The Avengers 2, building to a World War Hulk-style story being told in Avengers 3, one has to wonder how, exactly, such a thing would work. After all, even with Dr. Strange rumored to be coming for a cameo in Thor: The Dark World, most members of Marvel's Illuminati haven't yet appeared onscreen, and either won't have done so or at least won't have been a major player in their own film, before Avengers 2 happens. Dr. Strange is going to get a movie--this much we know--but it won't happen until after The Avengers 2 is already in theaters, and The Inhumans are rumored to come after that but still aren't yet announced. Professor X and Reed Richards aren't even part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, since their rights lie with Fox. And while we've heard rumblings recently that both Fox and Sony might be amenable to working with Marvel Studios on the formation of a large-scale Marvel movieverse, it's unlikely that Marvel would make plans as major as these that are contingent on cooperation from other studios. This means that, in addition to a few members of the Illuminati who will have to be replaced, even some of the ones Marvel owns will either not be present or will have been established only via a cameo or two before they have their first big moment. Enter Star-Lord. The leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy may be a strong candidate to join the Illuminati. He's an influential, human member of a spacefaring, peacekeeping organization. Persistent rumors that suggest he and Tony Stark will meet up somewhere along the line don't hurt, either. He also will have been (by the sounds of all the promotional material we've so far seen) the lead in a franchise Marvel movie by the time Avengers 2 rolls around, giving fans a familiar face besides Iron Man to be in that room. It will be interesting to see who Marvel puts on the Illuminati, especially if El Mayimbe is right and the group appears for the first time in Avengers 2, effectively coming out ahead of the release of Ant-Man (who would be an ideal replacement for Reed Richards in many ways), Dr. Strange and The Inhumans. Will they just use characters who have either never appeared, or only appeared in shadows? Will they not show the characters at all in that first appearance? Or is this whole rumor much ado about nothing?
