Comics in Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men

The new Sequart documentary, Comics in Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men is now available to purchase. The 42-minute film offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the bi-monthly relaunch of a mid-tier, previously failed comic book became the biggest franchise in comic book history, thanks largely to writer Chris Claremont. The documentary includes interviews with comics creators and details the creation of iconic stories like "The Phoenix Saga" and "Days of Future Past", as well as the struggles to maintain artistic freedom in the face of increasing commercial success, ending with Claremont being forced off of X-Men after writing their stories for 17 years. It is the story of the X-Men, told by the people who made it happen, but also the story of Marvel's transformation from an upstart comic book company to the corporate behemoth it is today. With all the hype about the film adaptation of X-Men: Days of Future Past, now is the perfect time to look back on the writer who made it all possible. If it weren't for Chris Claremont, the X-Men as we know them wouldn't exist. Any fan of these characters owes it to themselves to hear Claremont's story told. Comics in Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men is now available for rent or download on Vimeo, and DVDs and "Ultimate" downloads are available exclusively via the Sequart store.
