Inhumans Movie Moving Forward, Written By Amber Lake's Joe Robert Cole

Joe Robert Cole, the writer/director of the indie film Amber Lake and a member of the Marvel Studios writers' program that also turned out Guardians of the Galaxy's Nicole Perlman, has delivered a script for The Inhumans that Marvel is going to start sending out to filmmakers, Collider reports.

The process by which Guardians was developed, which will be the same for Inhumans, is that Marvel developed a script in-house and then circulated that script to filmmakers, who would then tweak the movie to suit their own style and vision but ultimately retain the same basic structure and characters Marvel had already signed off on.

Presumably, such a process minimizes complications like the conflicts that sprang up around Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish's Ant-Man script, as well as simpler things like filmmakers trying to use Marvel characters and concepts whose rights might be tied up elasewhere, or who might be spoken for by another Marvel production. It still apparently has some degree of flexibility, though, as Guardians director James Gunn has repeatedly stated that the character of Yondu was added and written specifically for his friend and collaborator Michael Rooker.

The Inhumans, seen by many as Marvel's opportunity to craft an X-Men-style tale for themselves since it doesn't seem likely Fox will be surrendering the rights to Marvel's Merry Mutants anytime soon, have long been rumored as one of Marvel's upcoming projects, with everyone from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to legendary comics writer and editor Stan Lee telling reporters that they could expect to see a movie at some point.

They were also a focus of the recent Infinity event and have since been major players in the Marvel Universe. Many had speculated that an Inhumans announcement would come at Comic Con International: San Diego last month, particularly after Marvel's other misfit super-group, the Guardians of the Galaxy, were expected to have a big opening and a sequel was announced.
