Armie Hammer Trolls Fans Who Think He's Playing Green Lantern

  • -

Armie Hammer hasn't gotten this much attention since Disney's The Lone Ranger went off the rails in 2013. And, by golly, the 30-year-old actor — best known for portraying the Winklevoss twins in David Fincher's 2010 masterpiece, The Social Network — isn't going to waste this newfound interest in him.

If you're not aware: in the past two days, Geoff Johns, the co-architect of Warner Bros.' DC Expanded Universe, and Joe Manganiello, the actor portraying Deathstroke in the DCEU, followed Hammer's Twitter account, and not long after, Hammer followed Johns's Twitter account as well.

So, what does that mean? Well, smart guy, it means Hammer might have landed a role in the DCEU. See, you can speculate that an actor or a screenwriter or a director is joining the DCEU if they begin following and get followed back by people involved with the DCEU.

That's exactly what happened with Rick Famuyiwa earlier this year. He followed and was followed back by a bunch of DCEU people, and then, he WB confirmed that he would helm The Flash — though he later left the project due to creative difference.

Okay, so let's say Hammer is the newest member of the DCEU. Who will play? Rumor has it, the Green Lantern Corps. will appear in Zack Snyder's Justice League, so some are speculating that Hammer is playing the most famous one of them all, Hal Jordan!

By the way, if Hammer does land the gig, it wouldn't be the first time he landed a DC superhero role, though it will be the first time he actually gets to play the part. That's because, back in 2007, Hammer was attached to play Batman/Bruce Wayne in George Miller's unmade Justice League movie.

So, as I started this article, Hammer has received a lot of attention in the past 48-hours, and to take advantage of it, he posted a tantalizing series of one-word tweets that implied he would soon confirm a part in the DCEU, but once he posted what was to be the big reveal, everyone discovered that they had been trolled.

Check out Hammer's tweets below.

Additionally, a "stoked" Manganiello sent a congratulatory message to Hammer, so something's going on.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
