Patty Jenkins Reveals How Her Thor Ideas Made It Into Wonder Woman

Director Patty Jenkins is in the driver’s seat for DC’s solo film adaptation of Wonder Woman, a film that is already generating positive buzz for the DCEU. At one point though Jenkins was going to be at the helm of another mythical hero, one who resides in the Marvel cinematic universe.

That hero was Thor, and it was for his sequel Thor: The Dark World. Due to creative differences, Jenkins and Marvel parted ways, with Alan Taylor taking over the project. Still, Jenkins had big plans for Marvel’s Asgardian powerhouse, but the good news is that most of the themes she had planned eventually made it into Wonder Woman. ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis had the chance to chat with Jenkins about what aspects of The Dark World made it into Wonder Woman.

“I mean they’re very similar in a lot of ways,” says Jenkins. “It’s a lot of the same questions and a lot of the same struggles that I was interested in Thor’s story or here, although in that case it was the second movie so it would never have been as pure and as simple f an arc so I really think it was meant to be that I ended up doing this one, which I had always wanted to do anyway. And I got to do it in a kind of bigger and purer arc rather than putting it in that other story.”

Wonder Woman hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action-adventure from director Patty Jenkins. The film stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis (Etta Candy), Danny Huston, Ewen Bremmer, Doutzen Kroes, Samantha Jo (Euboea), Florence Kasumba (Senator Acantha), Said Taghmaoui, Eleanor Matsuura (Epione), Emily Carey (Young Diana), and Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe).

The DCEU continues with Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
