BREAKING: Metroid Prime 4 Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

Well, we wanted a new Metroid announced during Nintendo's E3 presentation, and, boy, did we get it.

While the trailer that we saw was definitely something that falls in the "teaser" category, we've got good news nevertheless – Metroid Prime 4, the latest chapter in the first-person shooter series, is officially in development for the Nintendo Switch The trailer that we saw features a Samus logo with the number four overshadowed by it, followed by the announcement that Metroid Prime 4 was in development.

That means it could probably be a little while before we see the game make its way to release, but still, considering Nintendo is delivering on one of its fans' most requested games, we're happy to see it all the same. More than likely, we'll see first gameplay from the title next year, when E3 2018 rolls around.

It's been quite some time since we've heard from the Metroid Prime franchise. The last game to come out was last year's Metroid Prime: Federation Force for the Nintendo 3DS. While some fans were happy with the first-person shooting mechanics, many thought it was a betrayal to the long-running sci-fi series, mainly because it worked more on a team dynamic…and also didn't involve lead series heroine, Samus Aran. As a result, the title tanked, and we feared that the franchise would be gone for good. Glad that isn't the case.

The previous Metroid Prime games, however, were big hits for Nintendo. The original game became an instant success on the Nintendo GameCube, as did the sequel, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. And then the third game closed out the series on the Nintendo Wii, even though Nintendo felt compelled to re-release all three in the brilliant Metroid Prime Trilogy, which has become high in demand for fans. So high, in fact, it's selling for $50 or so at local GameStops. (You can buy the digital edition for $20 on Nintendo Wii, if you prefer to take that route.)

Anyway, we're happy to see Metroid Prime getting a comeback. We can't wait to see where the story goes from here! Welcome back, Samus!
