According to the website MCU Exchange, The Hulk and the God of Thunder will encounter the Cotati in Marvel's upcoming film Thor: Ragnarok.

They report: "Our source tells us that while they are chasing the plot, they will in some way encounter the Cotati, one of the oldest species of aliens in the Marvel Universe, as old as the Kree and Skrull races."

The Cotati are an alien race with telepathic abilities, resembling plants or trees. They originally came from the planet Hala, sharing their homeworld with the Kree. But a hundred millenia ago, the Skrulls showed up wanting to share their advanced knowledge and technology, but there was a catch. They only wanted to bestow such gifts to one of the species, so they had the Cotati and the Kree compete against each other to see which race was worthy. Long story short: The Cotati won, but like a bunch of sore losers, the Kree killed the Skrull ambassador and his crew, seized their starship and made its technology their own.

With their new power, the Kree began an eon-long war with the Skrulls, and they tried to eradicate the Cotati. They almost succeeded, but the Cotati hung in there, thanks in large part to a peaceful sect of the Kree, known as the Priests of Pama. When the priests got booted from Hala, they took the Cotati with them. Along their journey, they went to Earth and eventually found a new planet to call home: Tamal.

What makes the Cotati most interesting is there connection to Mantis, a character who will make her cinematic debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and be played by Pom Klementieff (Spike Lee's Oldboy). In the comics, the Cotati prophesied that the union of the perfect human (Celestial Madonna) and perfect planet would result in the perfect child (a.k.a. Celestial Messiah). They believe that Mantis is the perfect human, and they help raise and train her.

The cast of Thor: Ragnarok features returning stars Chris Hemsworth (Rush) in the title role for the fifth time; Tom Hiddleston (Kong: Skull Island) as Thor's adversarial, adopted brother, Loki; Idris Elba (The Dark Tower) as the Asgardian sentry, Heimdall; and Sir Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs) again portraying Odin, Ruler of Asgard. Newcomers to the franchise include Cate Blanchett (Cinderella) as the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela, Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson (Creed) as the classic hero Valkyrie, Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Skurge, and Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers) reprising his role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment of Marvel's popular Norse Super Hero, is directed by filmmaker Taika Waititi. Kevin Feige will produce the film, joined by executive producers Louis D'Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee.

Thor: Ragnarok will be released on November 3, 2017.
