When it comes to acting credits, no one can beat Stan Lee’s superhero resume. The beloved comic writer has become a bonafide mascot for the MCU in recent years as Lee has racked up cameos. From Iron Man to Spider-Man and more, the famed creator has appeared in nearly 30 Marvel films over the years. And, now, the man is hinting he’d like to ditch his cameos and pick up a starring role.
In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Lee took time to talk about his famous Marvel cameos. The writer admitted his favorite stint was in Avengers: Age of Ultron. His preference has nothing to do with how Thor helped him get hammered on liquor but with his recurring role.
“The thing I loved about that cameo is, if you think about it, that is the only cameo I’ve done that had two scenes. It was more than a cameo,” Lee said. “It was almost like a role in the movie! So now I’m shooting for cameos that have three scenes, four scenes. Eventually I hope to be the co-star.”
So, there you have it. If you want Marvel Studios to give Lee a bigger role one day, you should write up letters to let them know.
For now, it looks like Lee’s part in the MCU will be confined to cameos. The star has plenty of experience with the walk-on parts, but Marvel Studios may expand Lee’s part if fans wished in. The studio even left open an avenue to do just that in its most recent film. When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hit theaters, one of its several post-credits scenes saw Lee regaling his MCU adventures to a group of Watchers. The scene confirmed Lee has been playing the same character in his MCU cameos, so his part in the films could be expanded. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did say the MCU had never seen a being like Lee before...
For now, fans will have to wait and see how the franchise treats Lee's cameo moving forward. The comic creator will return to theaters soon when he drops into Spider-Man: Homecoming next month before Thor: Ragnarok draws him out a few months later.
