As reported by the Hashtag Show's Joe Deckelmeier and Jessica Heidenreich, Osborn won’t appear in the movie but will have a looming vocal presence. They say “at this early stage, his role will be just voice only."
While that may disappoint some fans who are eager to see the corrupt, curly-haired CEO of Oscorp return to the big screen, it will allow Marvel Studios cast their own actor for the role in a future MCU film should they choose to do so.
Osborn will be interacting with Oscorp executive Charles Standish, who is said to be a stand-in for the man who would become the Green Goblin. Early plot rumors indicated that the villain Robot Master is attempting to capture the Black Cat at the behest of Osborn, who has been financing Robot Master’s experiments. This comes alongside rumors that the film will also feature another classic villain in Chameleon.
Standish will serve as a the in-between man for Osborn and Robot Master and likely one of the villains behind the scenes helping to pull the string.
The plot for Silver and Black sounds like a high-stakes espionage take on the superhero genre and will likely test the extent to which Marvel Studios is willing to work with Sony Pictures on their own “Spider-Man Universe.” While Venom seems to be a self-serving affair, Silver and Black could embrace the elements of the MCU that made it successful.
At this point in pre-production, however, anything can change. But it’s shaping up to be an exciting take on two beloved characters from the Spider-Man franchise. We can’t wait to see what director Gina Prince-Bythewood does with the script.
Silver and Black is scheduled to hit theaters February 8, 2019.
