No Back To The Future Remake As Long As Robert Zemeckis Lives

If fans are holding out for the Back to the Future trilogy to get the remake treatment, they're going to be sorely disappointed. Director Robert Zemeckis has vowed to block any attempts at remaking the 1980s sci-fi favorite for as long as he lives, and hopes his family will continue to do so after he's gone.

"Oh, God no," Zemeckis told the Telegraph, when asked about the idea. "That can't happen until both [co-writer Bob Gale] and I are dead. And then I'm sure they'll do it, unless there's a way our estates can stop it.

"I mean, to me, that's outrageous. Especially since it's a good movie. It's like saying 'Let's remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?' What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?"

Zemeckis and Gale's contract with Universal and Amblin Entertainment gives them final say over greenlighting any future Back to the Future film project. Despite Zemeckis' confidence in a remake's potential success as a "pre-sold" movie aiming at the established fanbase, much like Jurassic World, he's not interested.

Well Back to the Future fans, is this good news or bad news? Let us know in the comments.
