Joss Whedon said he was done with superhero movies after Avengers: Age of Ultron, or at least for awhile. The film, which included him having to juggle a huge cast of characters, tell his own story, and also address the lead-in and lead-out of several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was hard on the writer/director. Well, it seems one thing might tempt him back: the opportunity to helm a film in the Avengers world with a female lead.

"Yeah, of course [I'd be into that]," Whedon told The Wrap. "Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants," he cautioned.

Indeed, Whedon was the one that took a bit cameo by Scarlett Johansson and turned it into a much more fully-fledged character, one that opened up The Avengers in spectacular butt-kicking fashion. With Black Widow continuously coming up in interviews and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige saying she's certainly the character they've looked into the most for a solo flick out of the current members, maybe that could bring Whedon back into the Avengers directing fold.

For his part, he's excited to see that a Captain Marvel film - the first from Marvel Studios featuring a solo, female lead, is in the works.

"Kevin Feige fought a mighty fight to get her on the schedule. So it's a start," said Whedon. "You could say that should be a middle [for Hollywood], but it's a start."

Whedon is currently working on a script "about a girl who goes through some unbelievable shit. It is an original screenplay that is very different from everything I've ever done except for that it's exactly the same," he teased.
