Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment officially announced Injustice 2, the sequel to Injustice: Gods Among Us. Developed by NetherRealm Studios, the developers behind Mortal Kombat X, the game puts DC Comics’ most iconic superheroes and supervillains against each other in one on one combat.Along with the trailer, there was a press release revealing some new characters and details about the game. Even so, we have plenty of burning questions we want to be answered about the game. With E3 kicking off next, these are the details most hope are revealed by NetherRealm and Warner Bros. at the gaming industry’s premiere trade show.

How large is Injustice 2โ€™s roster?

We know from the trailer and the press release that Superman, Batman, Aquaman, and The Flash will be returning in Injustice 2. We also know that Supergirl, Gorilla Grodd, and Atrocitus will be making their debuts, but that’s only seven characters. We realize that Warner Bros. will probably want to slowly reveal the game’s full roster, rather than throwing back the curtain entirely all at once, but it would be nice to get a sense of just how many characters will be included. Will the added customization available in the game mean a compromise in the roster’s breadth? Which brings us to us to our next questionโ€ฆ

How customizable is Injustice 2 going to be?

The press release emphasized a new element of customizability in the sequel. Players will be able to personalize how a character fights, develops, and looks by collecting equipment. This is exciting, but just how deep is this system going to be? Are the changes going to be largely cosmetic, or will it be more like and RPG, where your character build can change the effectiveness of the character? Will there be a pay option for new equipment? Can you choose special moves like a weapons loadout?ย It’s a bold direction, but one that definitely needs to be further detailed by NetherRealm.

How much time has passed since Injustice: Gods Among Us?

Turning to the narrative aspect of the game, we know from the press release that Injustice 2 will continue the story begun by its predecessor, with Batman’s alliance of heroes rebuilding the world that Superman broke. However, the press release is unclear about just how much time will have passed between the end of Gods Among Us and the beginning of Injustice 2. We’re especially curious because Gods Among Us spawned an excellent Injustice digital comics prequel that covered the five years prior to the events of the first game. Perhaps there will be room for a follow-up comic detailing the events that took place between Gods Among Us and Injustice 2.

What is the new threat in Injustice 2?

The quick synopsis teased in the press release revealed that a new, cosmic threat will approach Earth, forcing a new alliance of heroes and villains. This likely leads to the inclusion of Atrocitus in the game, perhaps as the first to warn the Earth-dwellers of the coming threat. Who, or what, could the threat be? There are plenty of cosmic big bads in the DC Universe to choose from, from Starro, to Darkseid, to Braniac. We’d love to get a hint of which is being used in the new game.

Who is narrating the Injustice 2 trailer?

Maybe we’re overthinking this one, but we’re not entirely sure who is narrating the trailer. At first we thought it may be Batman, but that doesn’t sound like Kevin Conroy’s voice, so unless they recast Batman for the sequel, that would seem to exclude him. There’s also the continued mention of “the pit,” which may be a reference to whatever superhero fight club the Justice League is fighting in. On the other hand, perhaps it’s a reference to the Lazarus Pit, and we’re hearing the voice of Ra’s al Ghul. That’s all speculation, of course, but it would be a neat surprise.
