“Many blessings today to the star of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland, and the film’s director Jon Watts, as they begin their shoot in Atlanta just as we are ending ours,” Gunn writes. “I don’t think we could pass the Marvel baton to two nicer, better guys who care more about what they’re doing. Kill it!”

He shared the message with a picture of him, Tom Holland, and Guardians star Chris Pratt at Pinewood Atlanta, where they invited Holland to stop by their set while he was in rehearsals at another part of the studio. As stated several times by the director, not Holland, nor any other Avengers character are making any appearances in GOTG 2, Gunn still had to clarify again to a fan.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 now enters post-production, and will make a stop at Comic-Con International: San Diego in July 2016. Spider-Man: Homecoming kicks off principal photography for a July 2017 release.

Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a landmark character sharing deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. He first appeared, played by Tom Holland, in Captain America: Civil War, and moves on to his own film, with a confirmed appearance by Robert Downey, Jr. reprising his role as Tony Stark, the invincible Iron man. Sony and Marvel jointly produce Homecoming for Sony to distribute, while Marvel can use Spider-Man again in future MCU films.
