It's already been two and a half years since the last full season of Sherlock, and there's still at least another half of a year to go to the next. Sure, Sherlock: The Abominable Bride helped sate the appetite of fans a bit, but they're still eager to know more about what to expect from Sherlock Season 4.

ComicBook.com's Jim Viscardi caught up with Amanda Abbington, who players Mary Marston Watson, and Producer Sue Vertue at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2016 to try to get a hint of things to come. Vertue revealed that she had cried quite a bit while reading the scripts for the season, and Abbington confirmed that fans should expect to do that sam.e

"Yeah, but that's juxtaposed with humor, as it should be because all great should have comedy in it as well, because that's life," Abbington said.

Abbington's own character had quite a twist in Sherlock Season 3 when she revealed herself to be an assassin and shot Sherlock Holmes. She seemed to have resolved things with Watson by the season's end, but Abbington hints that she'll be getting her hand dirty again in Sherlock Season 4.

"She lives up to her name," Abbington teased.

Sherlock Season 4 will Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) returning to London prematurely from his forced exile. He'll reunite with Doctor John Watson (Martin Freeman) and Mary to try to stop the machinations of Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott), who had made a surprising return from the grave. Toby Jones has also been cast in Sherlock Season 4 as one of Holmes' classic villains.

Sherlock Season 4 will premiere on the BBC in 2017.
