Pokemon GO Coming To Apple Watch

You had to know it was coming. Pokemon Go is coming to the Apple Watch, as announced today during Apple's special event. Pokemon Go has been downloaded more than 500 million times around the world, so it's really no surprise to see it transcend devices.

Pokemon Go is supposed to sync with your daily exercise activities, making it work seamlessly with the game as well as what you already plan on doing with your day. So instead of having to walk around with your phone out and staring with it all day, you can use a complication on the Watch face to see how far you might have to walk to hatch an egg. Your walk is recorded as a workout, which adds to your Activity goals for the day.

You can see how far you've walked, how many calories you've burned, and even which Pokmemon are nearby. During the Pokemon Go Watch demo, a Snorlax appeared, which apparently you'd still have to use your iPhone to capture, as insinuated by the demo. You can investigate Poke Stops, apparently, and collect items by swiping the Watch face.

Check the Summary screen to see your activity while playing as well as the items you collected along the way, but it seems to be omitting a few of the features you might expect for the Watch version. It'll be shipping before the end of the year, but it does raise questions as to what you'll need to use the Pokemon Go watch peripheral for.

With the new Apple Watch Series 2, a snappier processor means there's a lot more you'll be able to do with the app going forward, especially the fact that the Watch will be waterproof up to 50 meters. No worries about heading into puddles or the like if you're on the hunt for Pokemon!
