FX has officially renewed American Horror Story for Season 7.

This isn't surprising given that the current season of the horror anthology series, American Horror Story: Roanoke, has been averaging 12 million viewers per episode since it debuted in mid-September.

American Horror Story was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck in 2011. Since then, several series with similar, anthology-style formats have followed.

"Ryan, Brad and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping 'American Horror Story' endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment," said FX Networks and FX Productions CEO John Landgraf said in a statement. "The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. 'AHS' confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast and twists."

Out of FX's 15 highest-rated telecasts of all time, 12 are episodes of American Horror Story. American Horror Story has also earned 15 Emmy Awards.

American Horror Story: Roanoke stars returning American Horror Story cast members Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Denis O'Hare, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Wes Bentley, Lady Gaga, Cheyenne Jackson, and Adina Porter, and also adds Cuba Gooding Jr. and André Holland.

American Horror Story: Roanoke follows a paranormal documentary titled My Roanoke Nightmare which reenacts the experiences of a married couple who move to Roanoke Island, North Carolina.

American Horror Story: Roanoke airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
