Paulson has taken on double duties on American Horror Story in the past. In the last season of the popular FX show American Horror Story: Hotel, she portrayed both Sally and then her character for American Horror Story: Murder House, Billie Dean Howard.
The 41-year-old actress regularly has stated that her favorite role on AHS has been Lana Winters. In season two, Paulson’s Winters was a journalist investigating Briarcliff. After butting heads with Sister Jude (Jessica Lange), Winters was tossed in to the asylum where she eventually became friends with Jude while they were both imprisoned. One iconic scene from the show that the AHS fans will recall was when the two played “The Name Game” together.
After Winters eventually escaped Bloody Face and escaped the asylum, the audience then saw her once again when the character was in her 70’s.
“The show really felt…really focused on Lana’s story and her journey,” Paulson said. “I felt very connected to it. Because this show is a miniseries and has a beginning, a middle and an end to it, when it was time to say goodbye, it was really saying goodbye. I knew even though I was going to do the show next year, I knew I wasn’t going to be playing that character and I would never play her again and it was over forever and ever. I think there’s something about the nature and the way that we do thisโthere are 13 episodes and the story starts and there’s an end to the story and you put it away foreverโthat kind of lends itself to feeling very connected to the characters your playing…For me it was Lana. Lana’s a character that I felt most connected to and part I most lived playing.”
Most recently, Paulson received an Emmy award for her role in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. She’s been busy filming AHS: Roanoke in addition to Feud alongside Susan Sarandon and Catherine Zeta-Jones, according to E! News.
The current season of American Horror Story: Roanoke airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
