While Warner Bros. owns the DC cinematic universe, and rival studio Disney owns the Star Wars franchise, it doesn’t mean the filmmakers for each company can’t be fans of each other.

Zack Snyder, famous for his work as the director of Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, has been taking to social media as a way of expressing his excitement for the upcoming Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One.

The director took things one step further today, as he created an epic mash-up photo of the two franchises. Snyder took an image of Batman from BvS, where he’s standing in the broken remains of Wayne Manor, and placed a famous lightsaber in his hand.

The red, double-sided lightsaber is a nod to the famous Star Wars villain from The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul.

Giving Batman a lightsaber is a nerd fan’s dream, but it’s difficult to wonder why Snyder decided to fit him with a red lightsaber. Fans of Star Wars know that red sabers are reserved for those on the Dark Side of the Force, but Batman is supposed to be a hero. Could his dark and gritty vigilantism make Batman more of a villain than people want to admit?

To be honest, it may just that the lighting in the scene in question couldn’t facilitate a green or blue lightsaber. The color of red pops off of the bluish-green background in a way that makes it easy to tell what it was Batman was holding.

What do you think of Batman using the force in this new photo?
