We here at Comicbook.com have a growing interest in how you, the readers are spending your time and money when it comes to the big new movies releasing each week.
With our new Anticipation Rankings, we can get a sense of how a movie will do with fans before its release date arrives; however, the real measure is what happens when the film is in theaters! With our Big Movie Battle, we will measure how fans are reacting to each new release - and how those movies compare to one another!
This week we will see Disney try to own the box office for a second week with its live-action version of Beauty and the Beast - but it's going to have serious competition in the form of the new Power Rangers movie reboot! Finally, waiting in the wings we have the dark horse that is Life, the new Alien-style sci-fi/horror flick, from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and starring Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal.
So who is going to win this week's Big Movie Battle? As you can see below:
Power Rangers is the latest "do or die" attempt to turn an older franchise property into a new box office smash. The film has shot up to a 3.58/5 rating in our Anticipation Rankings as it nears release, which is a good sign that Power Rangers is going into opening weekend with a strong swell of fan support behind it!
However, old franchises getting reboots always come out of the gate with a wave of fan support under them; the real test for Power Rangers will be how it fares in the long stretch, once the built-in fanbase is depleted, the movie has to make its sell with mainstream viewers.
Beauty and the Beast was a Disney animated classic, and the live-action version of the film arrived with worldwide fan anticipation behind it. That fan anticipation has grown into a big box office haul; now we see what kind of holding power Beauty and the Beast truly has. Beauty and the Beast transformed a 3.31/5 Anticipation Rating into a 4.07/5 User Rating once people saw the film - which suggests that it will definitely have strong word of mouth to carry it, going into week two!
Unlike so many other weeks, this week's Big Movie Battle is going to be close; Beauty and the Beast could easily retain in its second week what Power Rangers earns in its first week out - so be sure to check back on Monday to see how things play out!

Finally, while it's not expected to be a factor in the race for top spot at the box office, the new sci-fi/horror film Life could help round out the top 5 at the box office - so keep an eye out for it, too!
Life currently holds a solid 3.17/5 anticipation rating - which is good indication that horror fans will be focused on this genre pick this weekend!
