One of the important running themes of Supergirl Season 2 has been the unexpected friendship between Kara, the Girl of Steel, and Lena Luthor, the half-sister of Superman's greatest foe, Lex Luthor.
The relationship between Kara and Lena will be the forefront of Tuesday's return episode of Supergirl, titled "Ace Reporter." The titular reporter is Jack Spheer, played by iZombie's Rahul Kohli, a journalist and ex-boyfriend of Lena's. However, nothing from Lena's past or even her infamous heritage seems to be able to shake Supergirl's loyalty for now.
"Not at this point, no," Melissa Benoist tells Entertainment Weekly. "I think they have a really special bond. The allure of the Luthor-Super relationship is so fascinating in the comics. I love where they're taking it now. She has no caution to being friends with Lena. She just sees a good heart right now."

And should Lena follow in her brother's footsteps and become a supervillain?
"It would be devastating," Benoist says.
In "Ace Reporter," Lena's (guest star Katie McGarth) ex-boyfriend, Jack Spheer (guest star Rahul Kohli), comes to National City to unveil his big breakthrough in nano-technology, which has the potential to eradicate all diseases. Lena asks Kara to attend Jack's conference with her for support. When Kara sees Snapper (guest Star Ian Gomez) in attendance she's inspired to tap back into her reporter skills and questions Jack on his discovery, which ultimately leads to a bigger investigation that puts everyone in danger.
Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

Under their supervision, Kara learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman, in order to keep her identity a secret.
Years later, Kara was living a "normal" life in National City, assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and working beside her friend and IT technician Winslow "Winn" Schott (Jeremy L. Jordan) and famous photographer James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), who Grant hired away from Metropolis's Daily Planet. When Alex's life was threatened in a plane crash, Kara took to the sky to rescue her. In the aftermath, Kara decided she could no longer sit on the sidelines and came out as Supergirl. She now balances her job at CatCo with her work at the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), a super-secret government agency where Alex also works. At first, the head of the DEO, Hank Henshaw
In Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant's assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO., protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus.
