Rumor: Warner Bros Looking To Release 3-4 DCEU Movies A Year

Following the smash success of Wonder Woman, many fans are wondering what exactly the future holds for the DC Extended Universe. While audiences can look forward to this November’s Justice League as well as next year’s Aquaman, the cinematic universe currently does not have another film that is beyond the pre-production stage.

But according to one new rumor, that could change very soon.

Umberto Gonzalez, of Heroic Hollywood and The Wrap, recently hinted that the DCEU’s upcoming slate could increase significantly. While 2016 and 2017 have seen an output of two DCEU films a year, Gonzalez says that that could increase to three or four films annually.

“A lot of people have been asking me ‘What’s the next movie in 2018?’” Gonzalez explained while on the Heroic Insider video podcast. “I know for a fact that DC is trying to get three to four movies made a year going forward.”

While this news can currently be taken with a grain of salt, it’s not entirely implausible when you look at the DCEU properties currently in development.

Shazam, Cyborg, and Green Lantern Corps, which were included in the initial DCEU announcement, all still have fairly set release dates for 2019 and 2020. But outside of that, sequels for Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League are still within the realm of possibility.

In addition, the cinematic universe has quite a few film franchises they would like to establish, with The Flash, The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Justice League Dark, and films focusing on Black Adam, Batgirl, and Nightwing all having been announced.

As for when this hypothetical new slate of films will be announced, Gonzalez says to keep an eye on next month’s San Diego Comic-Con.

“If I were you guys, I’d make sure I’d be inside Hall H this summer.”

While many DC Comics characters have yet to be officially cast in the DCEU, we have a few ideas as to who could play many of the heroes and villains in live action.

Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

Wonder Woman is in theaters now, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
