Anime is unique because characters can develop so rapidly over time.

We see seemingly scrawny kids like Naruto grow to have godlike power, and cheer for characters to fall in love. But one thing that is unique with anime is the extreme love for characters that the audience develop over time. But in the same way, it also means fans develop an extreme hate for characters as well.

Today we take a look at some of the most hated anime characters of all time. Whether its because of their annoying personality, the evil things they do, and just because they are easy to dislike. So who made the top five list?

#5 BlackStar

To start is a character that made the list just because of how obnoxious he is. Being one of the main characters from Soul Eater, we get to see him a lot, and every time he appears on the screen you are reminded why he is one of the most annoying characters you have ever seen. He has a couple of cool moments where he steps up to the plate, but that doesn’t make up for his actions and words the rest of the show. He is a loud mouth, arrogant, ignorant, hypocritical, whiny… need I say more? This self-centered little “ninja” makes the list as many hate him for his general annoying nature, and awfulness. 

#4 Teach Marshall D. (Blackbeard)

Ahh Blackbeard the legendary pirate, and one of the most hated anime characters of all time. He is hated because he is mainly so hated because he is the cause of Portogas D. Ace’s death, an overall well liked One Piece protagonist. He is the epitome of a villain, lead by the desire for power and greed. Not to mention that he got all of his power from backstabbing a crew mate, and stealing the devil fruit. This guy is just the scum of the earth, and is therefore hated for it. 

#3 Light Yagami

Light is the main character in the Death Note series, but what makes him so hated? I think the fact that he has an insane god complex is one of the main reasons he universally hated. Because of this complex he is selfish, and thinks he has the right to play judge, jury, and executioner. With the power of the Death Note in his hands, he kills the most loved character in the series (L). Over all he is shown to be a psycho, with power of the notebook corrupting him and giving him a superiority complex. 

#2 Sakura Haruno

Ahh yes, the pink haired ninja from Naruto. To start, is her hatred and rudeness for the main character of the show… Naruto. She endless puts Naruto down and beats him up. It seems like her hatred is unwarranted as she scolds him, puts him down, and acts like a brat at all times. Not to mention in the original Naruto anime she is constantly the damsel in distress, constantly being saved by Naruto and being ungrateful and rude about it. Overall she just comes off as a rude, annoying, brat and that is what gives her a place on the list. 

#1 Shou Tucker

There are very few characters that you just see and it invokes a range of negative emotions, Shou Tucker from Full Metal Alchemist tops them all. Shou is the most hated on the list for one action that he committed in the story. He showed a true lack of inhumanity, and heartlessness by disregarding his daughters life for work. He practiced alchemy on his own daughter and dog, both of which are adorable and loved dearly by Ed and Alphonse, and turned them into a chimera. Seeing the hideous monster they are unwillingly turned into, a thing that knows nothing but pain and confusion, is traumatizing. This moment is one of the saddest, most messed up moments in anime history. For this reason, this twisted man takes #1 on the list.
