USA Network has ordered five additional scripts for Psych which, if they were converted to an episode order, would extend the series’s upcoming eighth and presumed final season to a total of thirteen episodes.Should production go forward on a thirteen-episode season rather than eight, the series would potentially end its run just one episode short of USA’s record for original programming. Monk, which ended in 2009, had 125 episodes by the time it was finished. Thirteen episodes for season eight would bring Psych’s total to 124.Deadline reports that “It is unclear how the new scripts will handle Psych‘s female lead character, played by Maggie Lawson, who stars in the Cullen Bros. ABC comedy pilot. If the pilot, which is pretty hot, goes to series, Lawson will be available to do up to five episodes of Psych in Season 8.”The most likely scenario, there, is that the pair will get married and, by the same policy that saw Juliet introduced to the series when Carlton Lassiter’s original partner was written out of the series, they’ll marginalize Juliet to accommodate her schedule.
