The long-simmering Escape From New York reboot from producer Joel Silver will apparently take the form of a trilogy, according to a new interview--and it will be heavily inspired by Batman: Arkham City. Silver said the script is not finished, and that he and his fellow producers are "just starting" to get the ball rolling, but gave a bit of insight into what fans might expect when Snake Plissken comes back to the big screen. "There was a video game that came out a few years ago called Arkham City, which shows how when Gotham became this kind of walled prison and how it became a walled prison," Silver told Collider. "And they never deal with that in the story of Escape from New York, so part of our idea was to kind of see how the city became this walled prison and how the Snake Plissken character was a hero and how he became not looked at as a hero."

"And then, in the middle of the story, would be the movie that we, you know, previously saw about the President's daughter goes down, he has to go in and get her," he continued. "And then, you know, they did a sequel, Escape from LA, but I would like to then kind of find a way to have New York go back to a place that we'd like to see what it is today." Kurt Russell's antihero became one of the most iconic roles of the '80s after the original film's release, and has maintained a healthy presence on t-shirts and other merchandising in spite of only two movies , the last of which is now more than 20 years old, ever having been released.
