The BBC has greenlit a feature film based on the development of its fan-favorite series Doctor Who, timed to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the veteran sci-fi epic.Last year was the most-watched season in the show’s long history, and the most downloaded on iTunes, so it’s clear that the character’s appeal is still growing. Now, fans will get An Adventure in Space and Time, a 90-minute drama that will air sometime in 2013, according to the BBC.You want context for how old this series is now? Doctor Who was first broadcast on November 23, 1963, the day after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. There have been a dozen actors to play versions of Doctor Who just in the show’s central continuity, not to mention more than fifteen more in ancillary productions and additional homages like Community’s Inspector Spacetime.Mark Gatiss, whose credits include Doctor Who and Sherlock, handled the script.
