Titan Comics and Harmony Gold USA announced a partnership with plans to revive the classic 1980s Robotech anime series in comic book form in June 2016, with plans to launch the new series in 2017.
The Robotech franchise premiered in 1985 with an 85-episode series that adapted three previously released Japanese television anime โ The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA โ into a single, generation-spanning epic saga.
The Robotech story sees humanity battle three successive Robotech Wars against invading forces hoping to gain control of the powerful energy source known as Protoculture. In each war, humanity must battle a different alien invasion. In The First Robotech War, it is the giant Zentraedi. The Second Robotech War is fought against the Robotech Masters. The Third Robotech War pits humanity against the mysterious Invid.
Even now, 30 years after Robotech premiered in the United States, the Robotech series continues to have a large fan community that is always eager to revisit the Robotech saga.
