Fantastic Four Review Embargo Lifts Day Before Movie Comes Out

Kyle Buchanan, Senior Editor at New York Magazine/Vulture, has passed along the news that the review embargo for Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four won’t be lifted until “the day before the movie comes out.” And that’s just for online reviews. The print embargo won’t lift until the day of release.

Uh-Oh! That’s a pretty clear indication that 20th Century Fox has no confidence in the rebooted product Trank has served up. We’ll have a better idea of the quality of the film after the general public gets to see an advance screening of it on August 4th.

It’s hard to have confidence in this when Fox has unleashed a scattershot approach to marketing. They started off by trying to appeal to comic book and science-fiction fans, but have now dramatically switched gears seeking out a broader audience with Kanye West and loads of quips.

A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
