If you’ve been wanting Square Enix to revive the Fear Effect franchise, the clock starts now.
That’s because the Sushee developed Fear Effect Sedna is now live on Kickstarter. The title has a goal of $114,106, and with 28 days to go is already a little under halfway funded.

Fear Effect Sedna brings the crew back together four years after the events of the original Fear Effect, and will also fill in the gaps on how they’ve managed since they went their separate ways. Visually the game heavily evokes the original’s art style, but the gameplay is far more tactical than it’s brethren, tasking you with employing stealth like tactics on a regular basis. Distracting a unit with one character while using another to perform a sneak attack from behind is one example, or laying down cover fire while another team member attempts to hack into a network is another.
You’ll be able to control up to 5 characters during combat, which there will be a lot of according to the developer. The game takes an isometric view of the action, so you still won’t be able to see everything coming at you, an aspect that will feed directly into the Fear Effect mechanic. This status will increase or decrease depending on the actions you take, which will directly affect what your character can do.
The developers mentioned previously that they were going to focus on making Hana and Rain’s relationship more than a subpar romance novel, but they aren’t straying away from their sexuality completely, as can be seen in some of the images on the official Kickstarter page. As long as they balance all that out with actual character depth, I’m good with it, but too much of that and they will fall into the same hole that Eidos fell into with Fear Effect: Retro Helix.
