Titled Halloween Returns, Moviehole reports that the in-development project “will be a standalone film set to reintroduce audiences to Michael Myers years after his initial rampage.”
Whether that means they will keep at least some of the old material, a la X-Men: Days of Future Past, rather than fully rebooting the franchise is unclear. Certainly there will be at least some backstory to catch up on, as the story further claims “The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case.”
The story, it says, will open with Myers on death row, awaiting execution for his crimes, when an attempt at jailhouse justice apparently goes wrong and allows him to escape.
No word on a release date.
