Astute fans may have noticed that Director Phil Coulson, who lost his hand after touching a Terrigen Crystal in the Season 2 finale, seems to have shed the single black glove he’s been wearing to cover his prosthetic hand. He also seems to have shed the prosthetic, and is sporting a two hands that are, apparently, fully flesh. What gives? Is Coulson’s gloved hand gone for good?

“You can never say never because if ever I do, suddenly there I am with the black neoprene hand again,” Clark Gregg told ComicBook.com when we asked him about the photos. “What’s clear is that he left the black synthetic … We’ll call it version one, even though there was a number of iterations of it. He left that hand on Maveth and he seems to have gotten an upgrade, and it seems to look a little bit more human. I’d be surprised if it didn’t actually have some actually upgrades to it.”

Gregg goes on to say that he appreciates having full use of both of his hands again.

“I’m just glad to have a hand back,” he says. “He took my hand, man. I couldn’t do anything by myself. I’m just glad to have a more effective hand.”

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
