Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events Reveals Two New Character Photos

For fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events, Netflix has given them a rather fortunate gift. The site rolled out its first full-length trailer for the adapted series earlier today which shows Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf. The trailer gives fans a look into other characters like Justice Strauss and Dr. Orwell.

And, now, fans can look at the two characters even more closely through two character photos.

The images were posted to Twitter by Daniel Handler, and they show several key elements of the characters. For Justice Strauss, fans can see the lady reading a book about adoption law in his massive library which the Baudelaire children come to adore. And, for Dr. Orwell, fans can see her iconic lab coat and snippy glasses propped on her prime nose.

If you are not familiar with the characters, then you should know the women fight on opposite sides when it comes to the Baudelaire orphans. Justice Strauss acts as the children’s champion and even tries to adopt them after foiling Count Olaf’s scheme to steal their inheritance. As for Dr. Orwell, the doctor-turned-hypnotist sides with Count Olaf and stands to split the Baudelaire’s riches with the persnickety man should they steal it.

Fans first learned that A Series of Unfortunate Events would be coming to Netflix in association with Paramount Television last year. In July, a video titled “An Unfortunate Teaser” was posted to Youtube which teased the show, but Netflix claimed the trailer was fan-made though many are skeptical about that claim.

Later in the year, Barry Sonnenfeld and Mark Hudis were tapped to helm the series. Neil Patrick Harris was cast to play Count Olaf while Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes signed on to play Violet and Klaus Baudelaire.

This spring, K. Todd Freeman was cast as Mr. Poe and Patrick Warbuton agreed to portray Lemony Snicket himself. Production went underway in March, and filming recently wrapped in August.

This isn’t the first time A Series of Unfortunate Events has hit the screen. In 2004, director Brad Silberling released a live-action film based on the novel featuring Jim Carrey, Emily Browning, and Jude Law.

Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) and starring Emmy and Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris, A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death. The eight-episode series is a Netflix original production, executive produced by Emmy Award winner Barry Sonnenfeld and Daniel Handler, and premieres January 13, 2017 only on Netflix.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will premiere on January 13, 2017.
