With only 50 more visual effects shots to go, director Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) took some time out to speak with Wired about his upcoming special effects-heavy film, Warcraft.

A couple weeks ago, Legendary released the first stills of Orgrim (played by Robert Kazinsky), the orc protagonist in the film. To bring the digital character to life Jones brought in Jeff White from ILM who is “an avid Warcraft player” and one of the menย responsible for the design of the Avengers‘ Hulk. “He absolutely nailed that character, and orcs feel like they may have some of the same genetic background as the Hulk,” Jones told Wired.

I think a common fear for moviegoers with films that rely on a lot of special effecsts for characters and set is that it comes off like video game cutscene. Jones is tried to avoid being too dependent on digital elements. “We tried to do a lot of large, in-camera sets so that we had an actual reality that the film was built on top of,” Jones explained. “Some of the time we had [actors doing motion capture] on location, some of the time we had them on set, sometimes there was green screen.”

Working on a project of this scope can be draining, but Jones is still game to make more Warcraft films if a sequel gets a green light. “If I have the good fortune to work with the same group of people,” he said, “I’d love to.”

Legendary’sย Warcraft is a 3D epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based upon Blizzard Entertainment’s globally-renowned universe. Directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and written by Charles Leavitt and Duncan Jones, the film is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production.

Warcraftย will hit theaters on June 10, 2016.ย
