Back at last year’s MTV Movie Awards, J.J. Abrams appeared with what looked to be a Klingon on a monitor behind him. The first trailer released for Star Trek Into Darkness appeared to contain brief footage of Klingons. There is even a Klingon on the cover of the last issue of the Star Trek Countdown To Darkness prequel comic book.Despite all this evidence of Klingons in Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams has never publicly acknowledged or confirmed that there will in fact be Klingons in the Star Trek sequel. That is until now. In an interview with MTV, J.J. Abrams has officially confirmed for the first time that Star Trek Into Darness will have Klingons.Talking about the first Star Trek movie, J.J. Abrams said, “Yeah, we had shot some stuff that had Klingons in it, and then we ended up cutting the scene, and it’s a deleted scene on the DVD.” Then, J.J. Abrams added, “But they are back in this one.” As far as if the Klingon will play antagonist in Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams said, “Yes, there role in this is definitely that of adversary, and you’ll see how they play out. But again, you don’t have to know that prior. You don’t have to know anything about any preexisting stories to watch this film.”
