Rick Flag is the reluctant leader of the Amanda Waller’s villains-turned-heroes teams, so it seems fitting that Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) and Jake Gyllenhaal (“Nightcrawler”) were reluctant to take on the role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie.

We’re all wondering who might take on the part and today Cinema Blend offers up two more names. According to their source, Joel Edgerton, who played Tom Hardy’s brother in the mixed-martial arts film Warrior and Jon Bernthal, who played Shane in AMC’s The Walking Dead, are both up for the role of Rick Flag. Bernthal could have the inside track as he worked with Ayer on the World World II film Fury.

True Blood star Joe Magliano, who was once a frontrunner for Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel, “is in contention to play Deathstroke,” according to Cinema Blend.

Earlier today, El Mayimbe of Latino-Review tweeted that Gary Sinise (“Forrest Gump”) is the running for the General Eiling role. Cinema Blend’s source has heard the same. The name should be familiar to many of you as the character has appeared on CW’s The Flash, played by Clancy Brown (“Highlander”).

Suicide Squad will land in theaters Aug. 5, 2016.
