Things are, perhaps, not looking so good for Spider-Man’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy, played onscreen by Emma Stone. The character, who died in the comic books years ago, was a fan favorite in the first film and while speculation has been strong right along that she might not make it out of the second movie, hope for her continued presence in the franchise was certainly stoked when Mary Jane Watson, the woman who succeeded her in the comics as the love of Peter Parker’s life, was excised from the film.According to a new interview with Stone, it seems as though a clip will give us some very definitive clues during the Super Bowl this weekend.”On The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s official Facebook page on Thursday, a new clip will be released at 5 p.m. PT, which will give fans a glimpse of Gwen’s fate,” says RyanSeacrest.com.That’s pretty ominous, but what does Stone have to say about it?”Basically they’re going to see the continuation of the Spider Man story, which is the hero’s journey,” Stone told Ryan Seacrest in the audio clip embedded below. “And he’s up against a whole new squadron of villains and he’s struggling with promises he’s made in the last movie and the consequences of making those and what it’s like to be in love with somebody who you promised to not see anymore. I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen’s story has closely to the comic as possible.”The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in theaters on May 2, although it looks like everyone might already have a pretty good idea of how it ends by then.
