The publisher today released an image teasing that “War is Coming” to the Valiant Universe, and that floating helmet seems to suggest that.

Little else is known about what Valiant is teasing. The publisher did confirm that the teaser image was created by artist Monika Palosz and that it is tied to a brand new X-O Manowar series launching in March 2017, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the creation of X-O Manowar. Valiant suggests that this will be “Valiant’s most important launch of the new year, but quite possibly of all time…”

Fans won’t have to wait too long to get the full story. Valiant Comics promised that more information about this big X-O Manowar news would be coming in the very near future.

X-O Manowar was the vanguard of the new Valiant Comics relaunch in 2012. X-O Manowar remained Valiant’s flagship series through 50-plus issues written by Rob Venditti. X-O Manowar follows Aric of Dacia, a Visigoth who was abducted, along with many of his countrymen, by the aliens known as the Vine.

Aric managed to bond with the Vine’s sacred X-O Manowar armor and use it to escape and return to Earth but found that centuries had passed and he was now entering the modern world. X-O Manowar would come into conflict with many other major players in the Valiant Universe and eventually join Unity, Valiant’s major superhero team.

The series came to a close earlier in 2016, but Aric’s 2017 return was teased in a backup story by writer Matt Kindt that revealed a grizzled Aric sitting a throne as a warlord. Is this tied to the coming war in 2017?

A new series isn’t the only big event coming for X-O Manowar in the near future. Aric will also be featured in the upcoming Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe web series, and an X-O Manowar feature film is also in the works.
