It’s no secret that Star Wars has evolved over the years. With special editions and Blu-ray remasters, the original trilogy has had characters added, backgrounds retooled, and yeah, blasters fired in strange new orders that still don’t make any sense dagnabit.

Youtube user Marcelo Zuniga decided to look at the original release, the 1997 Special Edition, and the 2011 Blu-ray release of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and see just where and how those changes took place. In the two-part series, he explores everything from Jabba the Hutt’s added appearance (then slightly altered added appearance) to new vehicles and beasts, and more.
A large amount of the re-tooled shots are just color corrections and enhancements, or things like using modern technology to enhance explosions and extend special effects shots.
It’s interesting to see how little color was actually in the lightsabers in the original release (as featured early in the second video), and also how many of the main visual effects shots were not changed much in the subsequent releases.
Zuniga went on to do single-video comparisons of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, as well, which had changes to locations, additional celebration sequences, and more. Check them out on his Youtube page.
