When it comes to Spider-Man: Homecoming, there are plenty of mysteries which fans are trying to figure out. They already know the highly anticipated flick will feature a massive cast of diverse talent, and fans continue to wonder which of the film’s lucky actresses will be the love interest for Peter Parker. Recently, rumors about Zendaya being the hero’s love interest flickered when the actress said her character (whoever she is) will not romance the wall-crawling hero.

However, when one rumor get shot down, another will rise in its place. According to LRM, the site is reporting that Laura Harrier will snuggle up to the vigilante with her role as Liz Allan.
For comic book readers, the name Liz Allan will be a familiar one to you. If you are not aware of the character, then you should know that Peter Parker harbored a massive crush on Liz during his high school years. However, the popular student was dating Flash Thompson, leaving Peter to pine after Liz and even tutor her on occasion. By the time Liz begins to reciprocate the hero’s feelings, he has already moved onto girlfriend Betty Brant.
In the comics, Liz eventually goes on to marry none other than Harry Osborn, a man who was once Peter’s best friend and the second iteration of Green Goblin. The two eventually separate with a rather nasty divorce.
Currently, the site is reporting that Laura Harrier will play Liz in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but there is no word to corroborate the statement. When the actress was cast in the film, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios would only say Harrier landed a “significant role.” We still don’t have any confirmation about the actress’ role, but it is entirely possible that Harrier is playing Peter Parker’s love interest.
Of course, there are still fans holding out that Zendaya is still playing the hero’s would-be girlfriend, but the actress has repeatedly refuted the rumors. So far, fans only know that Zendaya plays a character named Michelle, but moviegoers believe she may secretly be playing Mary Jane Watson. However, a recent character description of Michelle from Zendaya herself has fans double-guessing the Mary Jane assumption.
“My character is like very dry, awkward, intellectual and because she’s so smart, she just feels like she doesn’t need to talk to people, like ‘My brain is so far ahead of you that you’re just not really on my level.’ So she comes off very weird,” Zendaya said. “But to me, she is very cool because she’s deep. She’s always thinking about something, always reading. I like that. And I also like that I don’t really have to do anything for hair and makeup. I just get to walk in and walk out.”
Spider-Man fans will read that description and likely be reminded of – you guessed it! – Liz Allan. The character was known for her intellect and no-nonsense personality, so fans are starting to wonder whether Zendaya might be playing an altered version of Liz in blockbuster.
What do you guys think? Are any of you convinced that Liz Allan will be Peter’s love interest in Spider-Man: Homecoming? And, if so, do you think Laura Harrier or Zendaya might have nabbed the role?
